Impure and aggravated conditions of Vāt, Pitt and Kaph have following characteristics.

1. Vāt Abnormalities

        The primary indicators include the following: 

  1. Stiffness and contraction of muscles and skin
  2. Restriction 0f movement
  3. Piercing physical pain
  4. Appearance turns dusky, dark or blackish
  5. Muscle spasms
  6. Emaciation and debility  
  7. Constipation and distention
  8. Insomnia
  9. Tremors

Many symptoms related to the nerves are also indicators including dizziness, tinnitus1, tingling or numbness, sensory disorientation, and deafness. Other indicators include cracking of joints, retention of wastes, dark or reddish brown discoloration, coolness, dryness, thirst, and weak or irregular digestion. Mental indicators of Vāt imbalance include expressions of annoyance and uneasiness. Eighty different types of diseases are connected with Vāt abnormalities, including paralysis, seizures, tetanus, abdominal distention, and sciatica. 

2.  Pitt Abnormalities

The primary indicators include the following:

  1. Yellow discoloration of the stool, urine, eyes and skin
  2. The body appears to be reddish or yellowish
  3. Dizziness
  4. Uneasiness
  5. Perspiration
  6. poor sleep quality

Other indicators include burning sensations, reddish discolorations, foul odors, moistness or stickiness, boils, goose bumps, increased body heat, increased acidity, skin irritations, yellowish vision, weakness, fainting, and stupor. Pitt abnormalities can also be associated with abnormal quality of the blood.  Mental indicators of Pitt abnormalities include anger and incoherent speech.
Forty types of disease are associated with Pitt abnormalities including heartburn, abnormal quality of the blood, leprosy, leukemia, gastritis, oral ulcers, jaundice, fainting, bleeding, necrosis, and inebriation.

3.  Kaph Abnormalities

The primary indicators include the following: 

  1. Whitish complexion
  2. Congestion, cold and cough
  3. Lethargy
  4. Heaviness of lower abdomen
  5. Loss of appetite 
  6. Indigestion

Other indicators of Kaph abnormality include excess saliva, chills, obesity, swelling of the extremities (edema), chronic pain, difficulty breathing, oversleeping, rigidity of the body, nausea itching, skin irritations, abscesses, oiliness, smooth skin, and coldness of the body. Mental indicators of Kaph abnormalities include indolence, sluggishness, laziness, dullness, aversions, and annoyances. Kaph abnormality can be associated with hardening of the tissues.
Twenty types of disease are associated with Kaph abnormalities including worms, parasites, weak gastric fire, diabetes, vitiligo2, edema, colds, cough, and anorexia (loss of appetite leading to emaciation).

2 Vitiligo is a skin disease that manifests as white spots on the skin.
